Importing images

To use the software you need to have:

  • Downloaded ZIP Classifier app to your computer

  • Set the location of the Working and Export Folders

  • A folder of images you wish to import and classify

Before beginning, we also strongly recommend that you read through Section 2 and personalise the app for your site.

3.1 Open the ZIP Classifier Home Screen

Open the ZIP Classifier Home Screen

Click ‘Import’. Navigate to the folder in which your images are located (Usually a DCIM folder). In the field, this will be an SD card.

A window with the first image will come up (as in the example below). Enter the camera site name (from the text along the bottom of the image, which would have been set up when the cameras were installed).

NB: The software will not accept any camera names with spaces in them. To manage this, ZIP adds an ‘A’ instead of a space e.g. 10400 0 becomes 10400A0. We selected ‘A’ as this was not used in our naming system.

Click ‘OK’.

The imported folder will appear highlighted yellow on the main classifier screen. The number of images in the folder, and the SD card settings, will determine the time taken to download the images. Typically, this takes around 30 seconds for 1,500 images.

You can import multiple folders of images before processing.

Importing the images copies them from the source (often SD card) to a folder within your Working Folder. The folder will automatically be named with the site name, date and time (see example below).

Note: Importing multiple data sets from the same camera

If more than one set of data is collected from a single camera, you can import both sets of images into the same folder (e.g. two SD cards of images from the same camera, taken over different time periods). The additional images will be added to the existing camera site folder, and the ‘Images’ number will update accordingly.
