Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP) is seeking an experienced Team Leader to support the culture and development of our tīma (team) in a full time capacity.  

The role is based in Twizel, with opportunities to travel and work in beautiful and remote places of the South Island.


About ZIP

At ZIP, our mission is to protect native taonga and restore te taiao (nature) by removing invasive predators across mainland Aotearoa. ZIP is working to adapt and refine our elimination approaches to completely remove predators within the context of three landscape scale projects: Predator Free South Westland (PFSW), Te Manahuna Aoraki Project and Predator Free Rakiura (PFR)


The role

You will lead and support a team of 5-10 field rangers both on and off the field, with a primary focus on people leadership and a strong team culture. Through empathetic and effective leadership, you will contribute to the successful delivery of the Te Manahuna Aoraki Project.
You will work closely with the Project Manager, work leads, and the wider ZIP team, in collaboration to maintain high-performing, goal-oriented teams.

Tasks

  • Ensuring the team is healthy, happy, engaged and productive. Supporting your team to make sure they understand what is being asked of them by the work leads and how the work relates to our projects.

  • Work in the field to remain grounded and connected to the mahi.

  • Developing strong relationships with the field team and wider ZIP team. Connecting with leads, and managers for context/support.

  • Identifying and supporting development and growth opportunities for the team, including mentoring opportunities, to maximise the potential of your team in both performance and productivity.

  • Administration, managing leave, rosters etc

  • Being actively involved in field work.


Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in supporting a team.

  • Clear and empathetic communicator.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt priorities at short notice.

  • Experience working in an outdoor setting. Experience and understanding of predator control is preferred but not essential.

    Comfortable in a dynamic work environment.

  • Physically fit and able to work in some of the Mackenzie’s most challenging terrain.
