Predator Ecologist

Maggie Nichols.jpg

Maggie came to New Zealand from the States in 2010, with a plan to finish her undergrad and ride horses, but after beginning to review camera trap footage for Landcare Research her interest in predators flourished!

Seven years on, Maggie was super excited to join the ZIP team at Lincoln in June 2017, immediately after turning in her PhD thesis on optimal camera trapping strategies and statistical modelling methods for estimating feral cat populations.

For her thesis, Maggie has been working closely with Landcare Research and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council on a number of monitoring projects over the last few years, and it’s been a wonderful experience.

On the weekends Maggie is always out with her horses, training or competing, or just having a quiet ride down the beach.
